Meet a Mom: Alexandra Kilby | Union County Moms

How many children do you have and what are their age(s)?
I have 3 wonderful & crazy kids, Liam 7, Quintin 5 & Zoe 14 months

How long have you lived in (your town)? What made you decide to live here?
Just about my whole life. I grew up in Summit and left to travel after college, but came back to raise my family.

What’s your favorite family activity Chatham, Madison or Summit?
We love to walk into town (Summit), especially on Sunday and hit up the farmers market for a pickle on a stick or something else yummy. Then we continue on to Mabie playground to run around or play some basketball.

Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop Chatham, Madison or Summit?
That’s so hard to decide. We love to eat in Summit because we can walk into town and get such a variety. We love the Summit Diner for breakfast, Zappias for the best sandwich at lunch time and for dinner, Fiorinos is a favorite without kids.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I lived in New Zealand for a while.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
I am just so thankful for mom, she is the best at keeping me sane and making me look at parenthood in a different light. When she raised a family, all the advice she got from doctors and specialists was so different from how we do things today, but somehow we all survived. I am also super thankful for my neighborhood mom friends who give my children a welcome home on snow days and me a glass of wine.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I own a jewelry boutique in downtown Summit, The Silver Lining. It has been in Summit for 27 years and I am the third owner. It is a great little shop with a huge range of price points. We carry many local designers, as well as artisans from all over the world. It’s a great mix of everyday classic jewelry and fun fashion trends to brighten your outfit and mood.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Summit was a great place to grow up, I always felt safe and hopeful. That is why I came back to raise my family here. I want my kids to feel safe and have the sense that anything is possible. I think this community nurtures that. I never thought growing up I would own a jewelry store I shopped at in high school, but as a mom it has been the greatest gift.

What’s your favorite form of self-care?
After, my daughter was born my self-care took a nose dive. I am slowly trying to incorporate more self-care into my life. I think for me right now, my favorite form of self-care is taking a walk alone where I can just clear my head and breathe. I also love a good pedicure and manicure, even though I can’t make them last more than a day.
