Upcoming Plastic Bag Bans | Union County Moms

Chatham, Madison and Summit will all institute plastic bag bans in 2020. The goal of this ban is to reduce waste in participating towns and cities. Shoppers will need to use reusable bags for their purchases. On March 1st, the Stop & Shop in Madison will help usher in this changeover by giving away reusable bags to each customer that brings in one or more plastic bags for recycling. Below we have gathered more info on what this means for the residents.

Summit
Effective May 1, retailers will be prohibited from providing single use plastic carry-out bags and Styrofoam take-out containers, and providing plastic straws by request only.
