Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I am originally from Finland, but due to my husband’s hockey career we have had the opportunity to live in Western NY and in different parts of Europe. I have called Madison home since 2010, and this is where we have decided to raise our family.
Child(ren) and Age(s)?
I have a son, Nathan, 15 years old, and a daughter, Amelie, who is 14.
Favorite things to do with your kids?
The leisure options in this area are endless! Everything is close by; great beaches, slopes for skiing, and NYC with everything it has to offer. We love going to museums, theaters and restaurants, and I cannot wait for the Arts to be back in full force after Covid! I also love playing golf with my son and horseback riding with my daughter. During the summer we spend a lot of time on our boat in Scandinavia.
Favorite places to eat & shop in the area?
“The Bottle Hill Tavern” has become a favourite watering hole in Madison. You always run into someone you know there! “Huntley Taverne” in Summit never disappoints; I love the atmosphere and the service is always great!
“Jockey Hollow Bar” in Morristown is our go-to for Date Night. And those usually end at “Shanghai Jazz”!
“Sorriso Kitchen” in Chatham has the best breakfast and you are always greeted with a smile!
I really miss “Drip Coffee” though. I am not quite over my favourite coffeehouse being gone….
Favorite form of self care?
I recharge amongst people, so taking time to hang out with friends is a must. A big portion of my family and friends are overseas, but thankfully zoom and social media have made it easier to stay connected despite the distance.
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I am a professional interior designer, and I work as a project manager for “Mimi & Hill”; a fantastic design firm and store in Westfield that is owned and run by a great team of women! I have previously had my own business, and worked for high end design firms in Scandinavia, but working with this team has been such an amazing experience! We are truly lifting each other up, and helping each other grow in our respective positions.
If you could give one tip to fellow Mom Entrepreneurs what would it be?
Put your best foot forward and don’t be afraid of going after what you want! Say yes more than no, you can always learn as you go!
One thing people would be surprised to know about you…
I was a very shy child. One would probably never guess that if they met me today!
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Moving to this area was in every way life altering! I had never thought that we would be staying in the U.S. for the long term, but after coming to Madison I felt immediately at home. The atmosphere in this area is very international. It is a perfect mix of energy pouring out from the big city, and the tranquility of a small town. We have found some great friends and we are so happy to be a part of the community here.
