Meet a Mom: Meet Kamari Aykes DeBarbieri! | Union County Moms

How many children do you have and what are their age(s)?
One, 3 years old.

How long have you lived in (your town)? What made you decide to live here?
We have businesses in Summit and Short Hills since early 2019, since we were exploring it as a future area of residence.

What’s your favorite local family activity?
We’ve always enjoy perusing the downtown areas of Summit and Chatham on weekends. My husband would bring our daughter down after the studio closed for the day; we would grab lunch and take a stroll through the nearest park. The Chatham Farmer’s Market is also a hit.

Where’s your favorite place to eat and/or shop locally?
For a quick pick-me-up in Summit, I’ll run across the street to Smoothie King. I was first in the queue for “free smoothies for a year” in 2019! It’s been fun treating my coaching staff and clients. Restaurant Serenade in Chatham is an enjoyable date night eatery for us.

What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I was a contestant on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”. It was a ton of fun and personal growth experience!

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
Oh, my “village” has been invaluable! My mother’s support with weekday childcare/education and advice, my “veteran mommy” friends, even the “Mommy & me” weekly cohort at Montclair BABY during maternity leave. I can’t imagine my husband and I handling new parenthood without them!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I am the franchise owner of Kika Stretch Studios – Short Hills + Summit. It has been an amazing experience being here for our community during and beyond the pandemic. We offer one-on-one, assisted stretching onsite, virtually, or at the home/office, bringing relief to the entire family.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
The Summit Sustainability Fund (and other resources) has been an integral part of our success in 2020. We cannot thank donors enough! Local clients can take the short walk or drive to us, get a relaxing stretch, then continue to shop the downtown district.

What’s your favorite form of self care?
A good laugh, a quiet beach, and an aromatic shower.
