Meet-A-Mom – Nicole Kobis | Union County Moms

Meet Nicole Kobis Esq. – A Local Mom from Scotch Plains and a Lawyer with

Lindabury McCormick Estabrook & Cooper in Westfield

Introduce Yourself!

My name is Nicole Kobis. I live in Scotch Plains with my husband and our soon to be 6 year old daughter. I love going to the beach, anything Broadway and spin and Zumba classes. I’m an only child and value the friendships I have because of it. I’m active in several committees at the JCC of Central New Jersey in Scotch Plains. I talk to my mom multiple times a day and love that we live in the same town as her. I hate mustard of any kind in any form.

 Kids?  How many?  Ages?

I have one daughter  who is turning 6 in April!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Union County?

I’m originally from Union County. I lived in Union until I was 13 and then moved to Monmouth County and am so thrilled to be back in Union County!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I’m a family law attorney and partner at Lindabury McCormick Estabrook & Cooper in Westfield. I assist clients in divorce matters and matters relating to child custody, parenting time and child support. I am a certified family mediator and regularly am hired by couples to help resolve their divorce or parenting time issues through mediation. I also negotiate and draft prenuptial agreements and help family members become guardians of children with special needs who are turning 18 or adults that are incapacitated. I also assist same sex couples with the process of second parent adoptions when they have children.

Favorite things to do in town/Union County?

In the spring and summer, I love going to the farmer’s market in Scotch Plains or heading over to Brookside park with friends while we watch our kids play on the playground. I also love grabbing breakfast outside in Westfield on a Sunday morning.

What is your favorite local restaurant?

There are so many great ones to choose from! I’m right now on a Soul Bowls kick (the Banana whip and coconut bases mixed together are incredible!). The avocado toast from Westfield Station can’t be beat. I’m also loving Grano for dinner!

What is the best advice you have been given about parenting or life in general?

Do the best you can-no one’s perfect. It’s hard not to get caught up in striving for perfection especially with social media and people’s tendencies to only highlight the days that feel like a 10. Give yourself and others grace and help when you can. Parenting truly takes a village. Also, at the heart of everything, children need unconditional love and support more than anything.

What are your parenting goals?

To make sure my daughter feels loved and supported and confident in who she is. To raise her to be proud of where she came from, to be kind to others and to encourage her to put her best foot forward always. My mom also always told me that as long as I could honestly say I did my best regardless of the outcome, that was truly what mattered.

Tell us the song or artists that put you in a good mood! What song to clean to? 😊

The Jersey girl in me is going to come out-nothing beats a Bon Jovi playlist. (Nicole is a girl after my own heart!)

What is the go to piece of clothing in your wardrobe that you CANNOT live without?

Leggings! I also love a good jean jacket and joggers outfit and flip flops. Counting the days until warmer weather!

Best Show/Series You Are Currently Watching or Just Watched?

I’m finishing Emily in Paris now and looking forward to the second season of Just like that.

Favorite Book You’ve Read in the Last Few Years?

If I actually have time to read, I usually reach for Jennifer Weiner or Emily Giffin’s newest book. I’m also trying really hard to read more often and joined a book club to try to hold myself accountable.

We love supporting local businesses. Can you please share your favorite places in your area!

  • Soul bowls is delicious.
  • Love a salad from Salad House.
  • Rock n Joe’s iced coffee is the best in the area.
