5 Teacher Appreciation Gifts! What to get and what to avoid. - Union County Moms

Teacher Appreciation week is May 5th-9th this year. If you are looking  to show your appreciation here are 5 gift ideas from me, a teacher!

What to get:

  1. Gift Cards: I would suggest getting specific with these. Find a place the teacher likes, such as a coffee shop, store, or restaurant. The amount does not have to be a lot, but getting specific shows your child knows their teacher. Also, I great way to shop local!
  2. Coffee/Tea/Snack: Find out what the teacher likes to drink or eat and bring it to them one day during the week. I once had a student bring me a tea because they knew I didn’t drink coffee. Another student who didn’t have much brought be a Rice Krispy Treat and I cried because I knew they couldn’t afford much but wanted to show their appreciation.  It’s nice as a teacher to see the kids care about you and pay attention to you and what you like.
  3. Lunch: Just like coffee ask them what they would like for lunch and bring it to school for them.  It makes for one less thing for them to think about that day.
  4. Card/Picture: Have your child write a letter or draw a picture to show their teacher how much they care. You could also do this as well, bonus if you write to the principal sharing your appreciation for the teacher and what they do.
  5. Cash: When all else fails teachers love cash (who doesn’t really). It allows them to spend it on themselves and for them to decide what they need.

What to Avoid:

  1. Mugs and Tumblers: Don’t we all have too many of these?
  2. Teacher “decorations”: Anything with an inspirational quote about teaching. Unless you know the teacher collects these, I would avoid.
