Meet a Mom/ Business Owner: Pamela Babik - Union County Moms

Meet therapist and mom Pamela Babik, owner of Mindful Therapy with Pam. This month we talk to Pam all about her approach with Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and helping  not just moms but all adults and young adults  alike to shift their thought patterns to help stay present, manage stress, and build resilience

Where are you from? Where do you live now?
I grew up in Watchung, NJ. After high school, I went to Fairfield University in Connecticut, and after graduation, I moved to New York City, where I spent several years living and working while also earning my Master’s in Social Work from NYU. Eventually, I traded city life for Hoboken, where I lived for a few years before my husband and I decided to move closer to where I grew up. In 2018, we settled in
Westfield and loved being part of that community for six years. Then, earlier this year, we decided to take a leap and move to Summit — and it already feels like home. We’ve been so happy here!

Do you have kids and what ages are they?
I’m a proud mom to a very energetic and fun-loving three-year-old boy who keeps me on my toes from sunrise to bedtime! Life with a toddler is non-stop — full of laughter, surprises, and just a little bit of chaos — but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. He brings so much joy and has this incredible way of reminding me to slow down and appreciate the little moments.

What is your favorite restaurant in Union County?
Hands down, Summit House! The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming — it’s the perfect spot whether I’m out on a date night, catching up with girlfriends, or celebrating something special with family. The food is always incredible, and their cocktails are refreshing and delicious. It’s one of those places where you can’t go wrong, no matter the occasion!

What is your favorite local activity to do with your kids in Union County?
We love exploring Reeves-Reed Arboretum. It’s such a beautiful place to walk, play, and connect with nature. My son loves running through the trails, and I love that it’s a peaceful space for us to spend time together outdoors.

Do you own a business and if so what can you tell us about it? Tell us what you
do for a living?
Yes! I own and run a practice called Mindful Therapy with Pam, and it’s truly my dream job. Before starting my own practice, I worked for Summit Health for many years. That experience helped me refine my skills as a therapist and deepen my expertise in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). When I felt ready to branch out on my own, I opened Mindful Therapy with Pam to create a warm, supportive space where people could feel heard and empowered. Starting my own practice has been such a rewarding experience. It gives me the opportunity to provide personalized, one-on-one care and help my clients make meaningful, lasting changes. It’s been incredibly fulfilling to help my clients navigate challenges and find more peace and clarity in their lives.

What type of therapy do you practice?
I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which focuses on recognizing and shifting unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. I also integrate mindfulness techniques, which help people stay present, manage stress, and build resilience. This combination is powerful because it helps clients not only understand their emotions and struggles but also build practical tools to manage them day-to-day.

What is mindful therapy?
To me, mindful therapy is about being intentional — slowing down enough to notice what’s really going on inside of you. It’s not about forcing yourself to “get rid” of negative feelings but instead learning to meet them with compassion and curiosity. When we bring mindfulness into the process, therapy becomes a space where clients can gain self-awareness and make meaningful changes that truly last. By combining mindfulness with CBT, clients can create deeper, long-term change while feeling more grounded and empowered.

Who do you see at your practice?
I primarily work with adults, young adults, and couples. Many of my clients are dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, or major life transitions. I especially enjoy working with women navigating big life changes, like new motherhood, career shifts, or relationship challenges. There’s something really meaningful about helping women feel more grounded and confident during those pivotal moments.

Is this in person or virtual?
At this time, I see clients exclusively through virtual sessions. Virtual therapy has been such a game-changer — it makes it so much easier for busy parents, professionals, or anyone with a packed schedule to prioritize their mental health. You can join a session from the comfort of your home, during a lunch break, or even from your car before pickup. It’s flexible, convenient, and just as effective as meeting in person.

How do busy moms make time to see you?
As a mom myself, I completely understand how hard it is to prioritize your own needs when you’re juggling kids, work, and everything else life throws at you.

That’s why I try to make the process as flexible and approachable as possible. Virtual sessions are a great option — you can do them right from home during nap time or even from your car on a lunch break!

Even setting aside just one hour a week for yourself can make a huge difference in your mental health and overall well-being. Therapy gives you the tools to feel more balanced, present, and confident in your daily life.
